Star Cloth

I needed to use up some left over yarn and came up with this. The pattern is a little sloppy, but I don't think it is too bad. I wanted to make the crocus bud design look a little better, but i just couldn't do it with the dpns.
This is one of the first things I've made with dpns and I must say, I'm quite pleased with it. The small gauge I used made it somewhat difficult to manipulate the needles and yarn together. On a side note, I first made this pattern on some graph paper and then translated that into text. Most likely there will be mistakes and I apologize before hand. Just write me a comment and I'll be sure to fix it!!
Materials
- Around 50 yrds of scrap yarn (any yarn will do)
- Size 4 dpns (4 of them)
- Size 4 straight needles
- Spare yarn for marking the round
- Tapestry needle
Pattern
With the straight knitting needles and using the cable cast on method, CO 8 sts. Divide these sts over three dpns. That would be 3, 2, 3 in case you were wondering. As an aside, I find using the straight needles to cast on my sts much easier then trying to do it on the dpns. Join the round and mark the first st.

Bind off all sts and weave in the ends. I blocked my cloth so that the pattern would show up better, but you don't have to do that step. In case you were wondering, a cable cast on is worked as follows:
Make a slip knot and insert your needle. This is the first st. Knit one from the slip knot leaving the slip knot on your left needle. Take the st from your right needle to your left needle inserting the needle as if to knit. In between the first and second sts on the left needle, insert the right needle and knit a st. Move that stitch to the left needle from the right knitwise. Continue in this fashion going into the next gap created. Confused? Maybe this will help.
Happy Knitting!!!!
