Daring Bakers November Challenge

The November 2009 Daring Bakers Challenge was chosen and hosted by Lisa Michele of Parsley, Sage, Desserts and Line Drives. She chose the Italian pastry, Cannolo (Cannoli is plural), using the cookbooks Lidia’s Italian-American Kitchen by Lidia Matticchio Bastianich and The Sopranos Family Cookbook by Allen Rucker; recipes by Michelle Scicolone, as ingredient/direction guides. She added her own modifications/changes, so the recipe is not 100% verbatim from either book.
This was another great challenge from the Daring Kitchen. As you can see, I have no Cannolo forms. Yes, I did make the Cannoli into turkey shapes. It's the holidays so I had to!!
I was worried at first when I saw there was cocoa powder , cinnamon, and red wine in the dough. I've never mixed the three before. I have to say though, I'll be making this dough again.
I decided to go with a simple filling this time. I just whipped some cream. Pretty easy. I added some chocolate chips and some almonds for interest. My husband (who doesn't like nuts normally) said he thought the nuts made the dessert better.
Overall, I think this was an excellent daring challenge. Thanks again to the Daring Kitchen!
